Yutaka Kono

Yutaka Kono is currently the Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, and completed Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Tuba Performance at The University of Texas at Austin. He has received his Bachelors of Music from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and his Master of Music in Tuba performance degree from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Dr. Kono previously taught at The University of Texas at San Antonio and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas.
Yutaka is active as a performer in both classical and non-classical music. As a soloist, he has won the concerto competition held at the University of Minnesota, and has appeared with numerous orchestras in this country. As a chamber musician, Yutaka performs with the faculty brass quintet of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Austin City Brass. His orchestral credits include Austin Symphony Orchestra, New Texas Music Festival Orchestra, Bowling Green Symphony Orchestra, Perrysburg Symphony Orchestra and many others. Yutaka also performs regularly with the Austin Klezmer Quartet.
As a strong advocate of music education, Yutaka often appears as a clinician and private instructor in the central Texas area institutions.
His transcription of Fugue by J.S. Bach for tuba-euphonium quartet has been published from the Tuba-Euphonium Press. Yutaka has studied with Steven Bryant, Ivan Hammond and Ross Tolbert of Minnesota Orchestra. He is a member of ITEA, TMEA, Pi Kappa Lambda, and the College Music Society. |
