Daniel Laubacher

The American / Swiss Composer Daniel Joseph Laubacher makes his home in Muri bei Bern, Switzerland. He grew up in Southern California, is married and has two children. Laubacher received his B.A., M.A., Ph.D. in music composition from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) where he studied composition with Peter Racine Fricker and Emma Lou Diemer and conducing with Varujan Kojian. In addition, he studied with the Viennese composer Alfred Uhl at the Hochschule (now Universität) für Musik in Vienna.
A certified and creative music educator, Daniel Laubacher has over a decade of experience working with children and young people between the ages of 4 and 18 in the international school environment (London, Kuwait, Vienna). He has lectured a wide variety of music courses (i.e., Vienna composers, music appreciation, theory, counterpoint, survey of opera, conducting, etc.) regularly in the Vienna Study Abroad Programs of several U.S. universitites. He founded the Danube Cultural Institute in Vienna (DCIV) and has set up music departments for international schools, developed orchestras, and has organised dozens of performances from school productions to large benefit concerts. Currently, he works part-time as music teacher at the International School of Bern.
