Lars Karlin/ Tromboneplayer Full Name: Lars Ragnar Karlin Age: Born 19830125 in Borlänge, Sweden Family: Mother Annette Karlin, older sister Maria Karlin, older brother Per Karlin, younger brother Hans Karlin Lars musical training started at the age of six, when he started to play the piano. His teacher in piano was the great allround-musician and pianoplayer Nippe Sylwén. Lars started playing the trombone at the age of twelve under teacher Hans-Göran "Bullas" Olsson at the Community Music School in Borlänge, Sweden. Lars was also member of several orchestras in the Music School such as Borlänge Ungdomssymfoniker (Youth Symphony Orhestra) led by the headmaster of the Music School, Christer Paulsson. Lars became also later a member of the Borlänge Skolors Musikkår (Borlänge Music School Marching Band) led by Tomas Hellström and Eva Hellström. At the age of 13 Lars applied for studying in the Music-class at Forssaklackskolan in Borlänge. He got accepted, as everyone else also did in that time. His teacher in music came to be the local legend Per Haglind who was a jazztrombone-player in one of the finest big-bands in Sweden. Per was a big inspiration for Lars and taught him a great deal of fun things that is possible on the trombone. The time at Forssaklackskolan duried for 3 years and in the last year Per Haglind formed a big band from younger local talents and players which was named "Pers Lilla Stygga". At the age of sixteen Lars entered the Conservatory of Music in Falun, Sweden. The Music Conservatory in Falun had a special-designed program to prepare students for the College of Music. Lars studied trombone under Hans-Göran Olsson as well as he took trombonelessons for Sven-Erik Eriksson at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. At the age of eighteen Lars entered the Royal College of Music in Stockolm for studies in four years. His teacher in trombone came to be prof. Sven-Erik Eriksson. Due to the studies for Sven-Erik Eriksson Lars also took lessons for other trombonplayers such as Karl Frisendahl (principal trombone, Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra), Håkan Björkman (principal trombone, Stockholm Royal Opera and European Chamber Orchestra), Mikael Oskarsson (principal trombone, Stockholm Radio Symphony Orchestra). After finishing his studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Lars went in autumn 2005 to Germany, to study trombone under prof. Jonas Bylund at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover. At the present day and since august 2008, Lars plays the 2nd trombone at the "Deutsche Oper" in Berlin. He is also a member of the Hannover Trombone Ensemble. Solo Competitions and prizes won: The Swedish National Solo BrassBand Championship in Stockholm (Sweden) 2004 - 2nd Prize The "International Trombone Festival" in Birmingham (England), july 2006 - 1st prize in the category "Best Trombone Ensemble", with the Hanover Trombone Ensemble. The International Trombone Competition in Porcia (Italy), december 2007 - Semifinalist, The International Christian Lindberg Trombone Competition in Valencia (Spain), april 2008 - Semifinalist, The "Deutsche MusikWettbewerb" in Bonn (Germany), june 2008 - Hannover Trombone Ensemble gets Scholarship award in the category "Free choice of Ensemble". The International Trombone Competition in Lieksa (Finland), july 2008 - 2nd Prizewinner Lars Karlin/ Arranger Lars began to arrange and compose music at the age of 16. His teacher were Bengt Andersson at the Music Conservatory in Falun and Roine Jansson at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.
