John Ross

Australian composer John Ross is a graduate of Durham University, and a Fellow of Trinity College, London. In 1996 he retired as Senior Lecturer, Charles Sturt University and Director, Murray Conservatorium. From 1991 to 2000 he was Director of Music at St. Matthew's Church, Albury, New South Wales. He is an examiner for the Australian Music Examinations Board. Most of his compositions have been designed for performance by community choirs and ensembles.
The West Coast Mennonite Chamber Choir of Canada (conducted by Tony Funk) has recorded his "Wild Mountain Thyme" on their "The Time of Eternity" CD. No.1 of his "3 Sax Scorchers" is published in the Saxtet Publications study album "Sax Scorchers: 20 Hot Studies for Saxophone". In 2005 his hymn-tune "Boston" was the winning entry in a hymn search conducted by the Boston Chapter of the American Guild of Organists to celebrate the Chapter's centenary. In 2005 his arrangement of Caccini's "Ave Maria" was performed in concerts by the Swedish soprano Lena Hoel and Musica Vitae. Their performance was also broadcast on Swedish TV. Other Swedish performances of the Caccini were given by Maria Gothe and Värmlandssinfoniettan. |
