John Oliver
Lives in BC, Canada
"...a new resonance..." During the late 1980s Oliver won six prizes for five compositions ranging from chamber, to orchestral, to electroacoustic music. Since then he has been commissioned to write music for leading Canadian Music organizations and has performed his own guitar music internationally. Oliver performs on special nylon-stringed MIDI-capable guitars made by Quebec luthier Godin, specializing in their transformation by electronic and computer processing. His music appears on CDs from empreintes DIGITALes, earsay, CBC Records, ZaDiscs, SNE and McGill University Records. With a dozen orchestral works and concertos, and over 40 chamber music compositions to his credit, Oliver is available for commissions of original music and unusual arrangements for all instrumentation, including those with electronics, samples and tape.
