Daniel Chambers BA(Oxon) ARCO
I am the Organist & Choirmaster of St Mark's Church, Swindon (see link below), the Anglo-Catholic parish in the Railway Village for which Benjamin Britten wrote his 'Festival Te Deum' for our centenary celebrations in 1944. I recently graduated with a BA in Music from Wocester College, Oxford, where I was Organ Scholar for three years and responsible for rehearsing and training the two college choirs, an undergraduate mixed choir and a choir of trebles.I teach piano and organ in Oxford and Swindon, and am planning to take the FRCO and FGCM diplomas in the coming year.
Though so far I have composed mainly sacred music, I have written a song-cycle based on poetry by William Blake and a set of 'art songs' written as a commentry to the jazz style. I have been involved
in the production and bands for musicals including Grease, Little Shop
of Horrors, Show Boat, West Side Story, Oliver, Les Miserables and
Carmen, and particularly enjoy musical theatre. I have
written the score for a musical of "Peter Pan" which is to be produced in the Corn Exchange Theatre, Wallingford, in June/July 2009.
Concerts
I regularly put on concerts locally in and
around Oxford, where I also
teach piano, organ, and theory. Forthcoming
concerts include my third annual
recital at St Agatha's Church, Brightwell-cum-Sotwell this April, and
another appearance in August
at the summer recital series at All
Saint's Church, Headington. I hold an Associateship to the Royal College of Organists, and am working towards the FRCO and FGCM diplomas.
