Simon Milton was born in Penzance, Cornwall, in 1977. Simon has graduated from the Welsh College of Music and Drama, obtaining a BA (Hons), and studied composition with John Pickard. Clarinet tutors include Mark van de Wiel of the London Sinfonietta and the Philharmonia orchestra, and Robert Plane of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. After winning the "Cornish Young Composers Competition", 1999, Simon recieves varying comissions from bands, orchestras, and soloists alike. The competition was adjudicated by John Harle, Humphrey Burton and Graham Fitkin. In February, 2002, BBC NOW recorded 'Tyranny of Distance'. 'Sunset' was recently premiered by Steven Daykin at the Welsh College of Music and Drama. 'Ozymandias' was recently performed by tenor John Upperton, conductor David Roblou and the orchestra of Midsummer Opera, to high acclaim. Works in progress include a Clarinet Concerto for the Orchestra of Colours, Athens, and an arrangement of Massenet's Werther for performance in the WEM 9 festival, Provence, in 2005. Simon works extensively in Arts Education, with projects involving primary students to adult amateur singers. Simon regularly plays for the Orchestra of Midsummer Opera, and is their Associate Composer. |
